Lone Star Anesthesia

RPK Anesthesiology Group

Anesthesia Services at First Surgical Woodlands are performed by Lone Star Anesthesia, an affiliation of highly skilled and respected physicians and anesthesia technicians whose credentials are reviewed and approved by our medical staff.

First Surgical Woodlands' reputation and success is built not only on the skill and reputation of its surgical staff, but also on the competence and friendliness of our affiliates. We are proud to ally our facility with the most highly 0regarded professionals in each discipline – but even that is not enough. We pride ourselves on making each patient's experience at First Surgical Woodlands as pleasant as possible. While most of our patients are familiar with their surgeons from previous office visits, many are not acquainted with other members of the surgical team. The anesthesiologists are one of the first points of contact a patient will have pre-operatively on their day of surgery. It is crucial that each patient is approached with respect, confidence and sincerity. The members of Lone Star Anesthesia exemplify such professionalism and patient respect.

ASA score

In 1963, the ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists) adopted a five-category physical status classification system for assessing a patient before surgery. The scale, which ranges from 1 to 5, helps to channel the patient into the most appropriate type of setting for their procedure. "1" was applied to a normal, healthy patient and "5" applied to a patient with severe or multiple systemic disease(s), or a patient who would not likely survive without the operation. Most minor surgical procedures where the patient's ASA score ranges between 1 and 3 are suitable for a surgery center, whereas those with an ASA score between 4 and 5 should generally undergo their procedure in a hospital even if the procedure is minor. In addition, if a patient's procedure is likely to require longer than 4 hours under anesthesia, the procedure is generally done in a hospital setting.

A member of the anesthesiology team will take the time to assess your medical history to help determine your candidacy for surgery as well as to place consideration on any issue that may arise post-operatively.
